Dita Vogel, Dr. rer. pol., joined the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) in September 2007. She heads the recently established research area "Irregular migration" and is editor for the information platform focus Migration (in collaboration with the Federal Agency for Civic Education and the Network Migration in Europe).

From 1998 to 2007, she was employed in research and teaching at the University of Oldenburg. Most recently, she coordinated a European research project dealing with the civic participation of highly active immigrants and immigrants’ perceptions of Europe, in cooperation with Rudolf Leiprecht at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Education and Communication in Migration Processes (IBKM). From 1989 to 1997, she was a researcher at the Centre for Social Policy Research at the University of Bremen. Dita Vogel has published numerous studies and articles on political, economic and social migration issues in a comparative perspective, particularly on migration control policies and illegal residence as well as on the civic participation of immigrants.
